The Gallatin Valley Snowmobile Association was formed in 1967 with Sam Jacobson serving as the club’s first president. Meetings were held in the local Chamber office or the Montana Power Company building. Activities during the early years included Yellowstone Park rides and creation of the Big Sky Trail which is now a National Recreational Trail. During this time, riding was still allowed in what is now the Absaroka Wilderness area, the first of many closures to come. Since then, the club has remained intact and has implemented a grooming program and built a clubhouse which doubles as the groomer shed. GVSA still has several club sponsored rides throughout the season including the yearly East – West Ride which follows the Big Sky Trail.
